Cashier
There are two Cashier shifts on Saturday:
8 am – 11 am
11 am – 2:30 pm*
The checkout process is a very important part of the sale and depends on the cashiers and taggers. The quicker the line moves the more people can and will buy, and the more satisfied they will be with the sale. Cashiers and taggers work together as a team. The cashier will then add up the tags and collect the payment (either cash or a check) from the customer. The cashier will then hand the customer a receipt. After the completion of the transaction, the tags from the items are to be placed in the bucket provided. This position is a good choice for individuals who are pregnant, or for another reason would like to be fairly stationary during the shift.
* Volunteers that serve the 11:00 am - 2:30 pm shift can shop the half-price sale a half hour before it opens to the public at 11:30 am, after checking in with their shift leader. Stick around shop the Dollar Dash as well, if you'd like!
Tagger
There are four Tagger shifts on Saturday:
8 am – 11 am
11 am – 2:30 pm*
The checkout process is a very important part of the sale and depends on the Cashiers and Taggers. The quicker the line moves the more people can and will buy, and the more satisfied they will be with the sale. Cashiers and Taggers work together as a team for the entire shift. The tagger is responsible for removing tags from purchases. If the items are tagged correctly, they can be gently pulled off the item. If the items are not tagged properly, do what is necessary to remove the tag without damaging the item. If the tag is damaged, write the missing information on the remaining part of the tag. It is very important that you not miss tags. Consignors will not be paid if the tag is not retained, so please do not sacrifice thoroughness for haste. The cashier will then add up the tags and collect the payment (either cash or a check) from the customer. While the cashier accepts payment, the tagger is gathering up the items and putting them in bags. The cashier will then hand the customer a receipt, which will be checked by the Door Guard when they customer exits. After the completion of the transaction, the tags are to be placed in the tag bucket. There will be a few cashiers at special locations. An Express Cashier will be set up to handle small transactions. That person will work without a tagger. There will also be one cashier at the Large Hold Bay. That volunteer will have two taggers to move and prepare the “large items”.
Note: In order for the checkout process to run smoothly it is important that everyone is on time and in place at their scheduled time. The morning part of the sale is very busy, so it is extremely important that all Cashier Team volunteers be in place at the beginning of the shift.
The Cashier Shift Leader will demonstrate exactly what to do when you arrive for your shift. If you have never volunteered as a Cashier, please arrive a few minutes early for some training. If you have any questions about your shift, or the sale in general, please contact the Cashier Shift Leader. Her email and phone number are listed on your confirmation email. We are looking forward to working with you at the sale!
